We had a two day house search in April 2011. We saw 26 houses in two days. I fell in love with the Tuckerman built home but thought we couldn't make it work as we needed a 5th bedroom. Our realtor called the Tuckerman group and Craig met us personally at the home the next day. He gave on the spot ideas for changes he could make to the home to make it work for our family. We made an offer the next day. It was quickly accepted, the minor construction changes were made and we moved in on time 6 weeks later. The company has been responsive to every little question and concern we had since moving in.

One of my kids even pulled a window off track and the maintenance man came over right away and fixed it! We aren't currently in the market to build, but I wouldn't hesitate to ask the Tuckerman Home Group to build our next home!

Changes to the Residential Code of Ohio

On February 22, 2013 Craig Tuckerman and Phil Hill attended a class on new changes to the Residential Code of Ohio (RCO) at the New Albany Building Department.  The New Albany Building Inspectors who hosted the class were very knowledgable and displayed their willingness to work with the professional builders in attendance to collaboratively achieve everyone's best interest: stronger, safer, and more efficient housing.

The layman or laywoman would be pleased to know that just about every element of a Tuckerman Home is highly researched, approved, and installed in accordance with standards administered by various professional and regulatory organizations.  Here are a few of those organizations discussed in the meeting...

Hey Craig,
Ok first off we have moved back from Belgium (yes it was fast) and now we are living in the Woodlands, Texas.  It has taken us forever to find a home and I fully blame that on you!!  You completely spoiled us and it was so hard finding a home that met the Tuckerman standards we are used to, I just wanted you to come here and build us a house!! Obviously that was not going to happen so we finally settled on a house and are updating the entire thing.
Seriously we have decided that 7229 Place is the best house we ever had and I have a feeling nothing would ever live up to it!
Hope all is well in Ohio and business is doing good.  The houses are flying off the market, people are getting what they are asking or more depending on where it is!! It's crazy!!!

Levy passes in Olentangy district, other results mixed

"Olentangy district residents were voting on a combined issue featuring three parts: a 5.9-mill permanent operating levy, a 1-mill permanent improvement levy and a no-new-millage bond issue to build a fourth high school...The operating levy will be used to pay for additional teachers, utilities and supplies. Contracted with Tuckerman Home Group to build a house in Powell Ohio. Craig and the entire Tuckerman Home Group staff was very easy to work with. The home was customized from the standard model and we were informed of any changes or modifications along the way. We would strongly consider having Tuckerman Home Group build another home for us, if the occasion ever arose.

The History of New Albany

Read CBF full article within.  From 1856-1980 the population of New Albany fluxuated modestly between 50 and 414 people.  In those times the great industry of the area was the New Albany Lumber Mill - originally Wilkins Mill - or fishing in the headwaters of the Rocky Fork Creek (To satisfy a nostalgic longing we are eagerly hunting photographs of this timeperiod).  How did the community go from a sleepy Hamlet to a population of almost 8,000 with some of the best schools in Ohio in three decades?  Columbus Business First interviewed Craig Tuckerman while discovering just that. 

One homebuilder continues to mine residential gold in New Albany. Craig Tuckerman, president of Tuckerman Home Group, said he continues to build new homes in New Albany for several reasons. First, new construction and buying continue to garner attention, encouraging him to purchase viable lots. Tuckerman has built more than 30 homes in New Albany, and recently purchased 11 empty lots “because we have faith the buyers are there,” he said. His company is “busy as we have ever been in New Albany,” and he expects that trend to continue. He has heard “a lot of optimism,” including from potential buyers, so said he will continue to build there.

Pittsburgh Convention Oct 2012

The Tuckerman Home Group built my home during the Columbus Parade of Homes several years ago. What could have been a very stressful time instead was a wonderful experience. I am pleased with the attention to detail and the quality of materials and workmanship. 2013 Lighting Trends

Layering, LED's, Landscaping, Traditional Fixtures...Which Does Not Belong?

September 18th is National Ceiling Fan Day, and we thought that before you breeze your way right through the holiday, we could bring you industry news and customer feedback regarding lighting design, fixture styles, and new products.  The top trend this year as reported by experts far and wide is that 2013 will be the year that LED (Light Emitting Diode) lighting comes in full force to practical residential applications.  The technical and cost barriers have finally broken down, and while the quality of the light emitted by these diodes has improved, here is a word of wisdom from a local home inspector:

Homeowners should look for Energy Star rated LED bulbs, which have been tested to meet EPA standards of color quality and consistency, energy efficiency, and stable performance. Inferior products may make a lot of promises but may not deliver. By replacing the bulbs in their most-used and hard-to-reach fixtures, homeowners can start saving energy - and money - right now..

Children's Hospital Event

The Tuckerman Home Group's Phil Hill and Family Celebrate with NCH's Pediatric Heart Surgery Unit

Phil & his wife Dawn welcomed little Angus Hill in February. Shortly after he was born, Angus was taken to Nationwide Children's Hospital for heart surgery. Last month, doing great, Angus and family reunited with the doctors, nurses, and other pediatric heart patients for a fun-filled event at Nationwide Children's Hospital.

August and September were full of good news for the Columbus housing market. 

September 19, 2012— Central Ohio home sales climbed to their highest level in five years during August, as buyers snatched up a steadily shrinking number of homes on the market.  During the month, 2,326 homes changed hands in the Columbus area, 12.3 percent more than in August 2011, according to the Columbus Board of Realtors.

Central OH Housing Red Hot

Better than any other Ohio city or region

So prices are up but more importantly sale volume is way up and days on the market are way down.Condominium sales, as mentioned in the article below are also way up in May.  Anecdotally, I overheard a property investor and a property manager lament the fact that there are no good rentals to be had, or none to be had without a bidding war from the Short North, to Dublin, to Westerville.

So there may be no more exciting news for those considering selling their existing home than that within the front page of the Columbus Dispatch today.  Not only are interest rates uber-attractive, and competition from other homes on the market devestatingly low, but these factors combine to create an environment where homes are selling fast, FAST, FAST!

A highlight of the article includes the anecdote from Worthington of a seller who puts her ranch on the market on a Friday and receives two offers -- one for above asking price -- by Monday evening.

Rising Prices in the USA Today

Big City Average: Home Prices Up 9.3%

While this USA Today story covers developments nationwide, several aspects pertain here in Central Ohio.  The highlights: Case-Schiller study shows prices up 9.3% from February 2012; Tight supply of homes is driving force in higher prices; Prices remain 29% below the peak in 2006.  We can add that for a builder of fine new homes, increased prices for lumber, finishes, and labor have begun to trickle down to the consumer.  While not a significant component of higher prices, Ohio residential codes were updated at the beginning of the year and mandate better quality homes.

We can report anecdotal evidence of a shift in value that our neighbors place upon good, new development, but how much of this is driven by a real shortage of high-quality affordable homes? Sales Soar!

2012 Optimism & 2013 Opportunities

In September we posted about the strong year for home sales we are enjoying locally. As a followup, we can say due to great reporting from the Columbus Dispatch and Jim Weiker that as a region Central Ohio sold more homes than at any time since 2005. 2005?! That was before the 'Great Recession' so some investigation remains for market dynamics between 2005-2008. Regardless, this is great news for Columbus, Ohio, and the nation as is described below in the source article from the Dispatch. In short, sales, prices, optimism up; inventory, interest rates down. What a combination.

We were told by many people that our friendship with Craig would be destroyed by building with a friend. It is true that Craig could have made this a nightmare for us like so many people have had the misfortune of with other builders, but instead he made the process fun and exciting and gave us a beautiful home which we are very grateful for. We would definitely build with Tuckerman again and have recomended them to everyone.

I beleive this is our finest floorplan within the category of homes featuring a first floor master suite.  What makes it unique is the combination of a completely Georgian country home exterior with a floorplan built for entertainment and family living.  Its layout and flow does not quite approach those of strict utility; quite the contrary, its conveniences are added bonuses, tastefully complementing an already stately home.  Consider, for example, the powder room off of the drop zone adjacent to the garage.  The outdoor courtyard that empties off of the breakfast and great room.  The private staircase, in lieu of a grand stair hall.  The coat, linen, and walk-in-closets.  This is a home for the good life in 2013.  Continued...

We modeled our house on another existing plan, but Craig allowed us to make major changes. His standard features are of such quality, we didn't find it necessary to upgrade. My biggest concern was that our baby was due the same week as the completion of the house. The house came a month ahead of schedule.

Because everything in our house was customized, we chose to make all the decisions -- sometimes causing delays. Craig never complained. He was always flexible, and very understanding. This is the best house we ever lived in…we really would rather not leave this incredible home but it’s time. I’ll be 70 next year and it’s time to downsize and simplify. And we are spending 4-6 months in Florida each year. Thanks for building such a wonderful home for us.

Wish I could give 4 1/2 stars. Tuckerman Home Group is great to work with -- the process went smoothly, they were always available to explain things to us and were responsive, quality is very good, very reliable, we are very happy with our home. They went above and beyond in several areas. The reason for not giving 5 stars is that there were a few times when communication could've been better about certain things and that a few of their sub-contractors were not responsive or helpful (many of them, however, were fabulous). Overall, we are very happy with our home.

Craig was able to take my plans and build two awesome town homes. Both units have always been fully rented - a fact I attribute in large part to the build quality. Craig was also able to build the units on a tight urban lot and work around difficult neighborhood issues. Craig was always professional and always available even years later when I had questions. I highly recommend him!

The Columbus Comeback

No wonder. After taking a dive during the recession, Columbus has roared back, with the metro area creating more new jobs than any other city in Ohio over the past two years. I have been thinking about sending this email for a while but life sometimes gets in the way of things we should do.  I want to send a sincere "thank you" to you and Craig for everything you have done for us and with us over the last 14 months.  It has been great getting to know you and working with you.  I do not have any prior experience building but the experience with Tuckerman has been awesome.

First, our house has very minor things that need "fixed" or "adjusted" but mainly because the customer service has been impeccable.  We have always gotten a return call and our "issues" have always been taken care of quickly.  We have 100% confidence in the product you produce and 110% confidence if something isn't right that Tuckerman will make it right.

Living in this neighborhood and hearing the horror stories from the residents about their builder make me ecstatic Tuckerman was our builder. In this day in age where people generally only complain, I wanted to send something positive that may help remind you that you do an excellent job and are in the business for the right reasons.  So that's all :-)

There's a reason Les Wexner chose to build the second largest mansion in Ohio on Kitzmiller Road. 

Browse nearby property listings on Trulia and find a high-ranked location across many categories as well as glowing descriptions of homes for sale like "...nestled in park-like acres," "Enjoy scenic views of a sparkling creek," as well as "Star gaze from 3 acres with mature trees and gorgeous setting."  However, we enjoy this down-to-earth description from a joyride/motorcycle blog that also hints at why this area just outside Columbus also offers peace of mind and a sense of security.  Its all about living in the country with the convenience of city-living:

Kitzmiller starts at a bar with good drink specials and ends at a pizza joint with good pies. The road is in great condition with some 90 degree turns and lots of trees. Be careful of the speeds cause the law is watching. This road goes through a horse farm, golf course and the homestead of the CEO of Victoria Secrets.

Interesting article in the Dispatch on August 23, 2012 about a lower inventory of homes for sale in Central Ohio.  Anecdotedly, I have heard the same from a neighbor who has decided to build in Italian Village because she can't find a home for sale that suits her needs.

The folks at The Tuckerman Home Group are so easy to work with, and so good to their word. We wouldn't build with anyone else. While other builders are often limited in their selection, Craig and his team are flexible about options. I asked for a custom mantle. They provided it. I asked for special outlet covers -- brass, silver, they let me choose.

It's possible to swap, add, and even save! My mother calls Craig, "the most honest man I've ever met…"

CNBC: Builders Not Meeting Demand

Some great analysis today on fundamental housing market dynamics as old as the hammer and nail: when demand rises and supply shrinks, prices go up.  While you don't need a degree in economics from The Ohio State University to understand this, CNBC does some great reporting on the finer points.  For instance, market segmentation between distressed properties, used homes, and new builds from builders adds some depth to the picture of rising costs.  Also of note is, despite the local market's hit in 2008, prices are on the rise everywhere--even in those areas not swamped with foreclosures like Columbus.  CNBC claims builders aren't building fast enough--if they only knew what The Tuckerman Home Group was accomplishing in Wentworth Crossing!  Read the whole article within.
